Expatriate Tax & Global Mobility Senior / Supervisor - London

£35,000 – £48,000 - Expatriate Tax
Ref: 132 Date Posted: Monday 23 May 2022

An unusual opportunity has arisen for a highly competent expatriate tax senior or supervisor within a small, yet highly successful professional services firm.

In this role you will work directly to the Partners and will thus get exposure to a multitude of different technical issues as you work together on the ever growing client portfolio.  The team provides a comprehensive suite of services within the human capital / employment arena, to include expatriate tax, share schemes and payroll.  A typical day might include speaking directly with a client’s HR Director and advising on post Brexit changes, or dealing with some tax equalisation cases. Later in the day you might be working with individual expats, perhaps conducting an arrival or departure meeting, advising on the statutory residence test or dealing with a social security query.  If you enjoy rolling your sleeves up and getting involved, this role will really appeal to you.  There is scope to work on wider projects within the firm also, should you wish to, which will offer you lots more technical exposure than you would get at a larger firm.

There is a small amount of compliance to deal with, but the main focus of the role is advisory. As an example, the firm has many corporate clients without a presence in the UK for whom it acts as an outsourced HR function, coordinating and managing all the UK tax, social security and relocation matters arising from their cross border movement of employees. You will also get involved in preparing articles, doing presentations or training for clients, as well as proposals.

The beauty of this type of work is that you get to see and do it all, rather than work in a silo, and you become a more all round advisor because of it.

A small but nonetheless key part of the role will be to manage the payroll process for the firm’s clients.  This will include split and modified expatriate payrolls for both tax and NIC.  You will have admin support for the payroll, but it will be yours to take ownership of. The Partners will always be on hand for support however, if needed.

You will undoubtedly find the working conditions here favourable.  The Partners and staff are all down to earth, friendly, inclusive and supportive.  There are core hours but there is flexibility on how you manage your day, should you need it.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of specialising in UK expatriate tax and have 2-3 years’ relevant experience (ATT or equivalent).  For those who haven’t had any practical experience with payroll, please do still apply as training will be given.  The firm do not expect someone to be au fait with every technical area of the role and are more interested in finding someone who is the right fit and who has the ability to learn.   On the job training by people well renowned and excellent in in their fields will therefore be available.  Further exam support is also on offer, if that is of interest.

This is a firm that has grown significantly since inception and continues to do so.  As such there is plenty of room for progression within your career.
